Tenerife isn't a destination for great museums, but it has a cheap public network and gardens that rescue a cloudy day. MUNA, TEA, the Palmetum and the Parque Marítimo are in Santa Cruz; the Science and Cosmos Museum and Casa Lercaro are in La Laguna. None of them is in the tourist south.

If you were searching for "MHT Tenerife": it isn't a museum. MHT is Music Hall Tavern, a comedy drag show with dinner in Playa de las Américas; you'll find it under shows. The history museum is abbreviated MHA.

Our picks

1

If you're passing through Icod

Dragon Tree and botanical garden for €5, as at the ticket office; you can see the tree for free from the square, the ticket is for seeing it up close.

2

For an afternoon in Santa Cruz

Palmetum for €6, as at the ticket office; Canary Islands residents pay half at the ticket office.

3

If you're heading to the east of the island

Pyramids of Güímar, basic ticket for €12.50, the same price on both platforms.

4

If you're visiting La Orotava

Casa de los Balcones, €1 cheaper on GetYourGuide than on Tiqets.

MUNA, Science and Cosmos, and MHA: the island council's museums

They share prices and rules. Rates from the Museos de Tenerife network:

Ticket Standard Canary Islands resident
Adult €5 €3
Students, pensioners, over-65s, large families, groups of 8+ €3.50 €2
Under-8s free free

The planetarium at the Science and Cosmos Museum costs €1 extra.

  • MUNA, Museum of Nature and Archaeology (Museo de Naturaleza y Arqueología): Calle Fuente Morales s/n, Santa Cruz, near Plaza de España and the bus station; "Fundación" tram stop.
  • Science and Cosmos Museum (Museo de la Ciencia y el Cosmos): Avenida Los Menceyes 70, La Laguna; tram stop at the door.
  • MHA, Museum of History and Anthropology (Museo de Historia y Antropología): Casa Lercaro (Calle San Agustín 22, La Laguna) and Casa de Carta (Valle de Guerra).
  • Castillo de San Cristóbal: interpretation centre on Plaza de España in Santa Cruz; its price isn't on the rate card, so ask there.

Opening hours: MUNA, Science and Cosmos and Casa Lercaro, Monday to Saturday 09:00–19:00 and Sundays and public holidays 10:00–17:00. Casa de Carta, daily 10:00–17:00; the Castillo, Monday to Saturday 10:00–18:00. Last entry 30 minutes before closing (15 at the Castillo). Closed on 24, 25 and 31 December, 1 and 6 January and Carnival Tuesday.

On Tiqets you'll see "MUNA: ticket + Legend of Teide audio guide" from €21: that's a package with an audio guide, not the €5 ticket. The 48-hour ticket for the Santa Cruz sightseeing bus does include MUNA.

TEA, free contemporary art

TEA, Tenerife Espacio de las Artes (Avenida de San Sebastián 10), is right next to MUNA. It's open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 20:00, with free exhibitions and guided tours, and films from Friday to Sunday at 19:00 for €4 (programme). It's closed on Mondays that aren't public holidays; MUNA, on the other hand, is open.

Palmetum and Parque Marítimo

The Palmetum, a palm garden built on top of an old rubbish tip, is open daily from 10:00 to 18:00 (last entry 17:00). Rates from its official website:

Palmetum Price
Non-resident adult €6
Non-resident child €2.80
Resident adult €3
Residents over 65, under 12, with a disability or from large families €1.50
Under-3s free

It doesn't say up to what age a non-resident counts as a "child": ask. The guided tour costs extra: €70 per group, booking 15 days ahead.

Adult prices checked on 2 October 2026. They can change with the date; each platform confirms the final price.

Both platforms charge €6, the same as the ticket office; on Tiqets the provider is an agency, not the garden. Canary Islands residents pay half at the ticket office.

The Parque Marítimo César Manrique (Avenida de la Constitución 5), seawater pools next to the Palmetum, is on winter hours until 19 June: 10:00–18:00, with the pools closed from 17:45. In winter only one pool is open: the children's pool and the waterfall pool are under maintenance. With small children, check the park's website first. Entry with sunbed: €7.50 for non-resident adults, €4 for under-12s, €5 for over-65s; parasol, €3. Tiqets sells it at the same price.

Parque del Drago (Icod de los Vinos)

Three hectares around the Dragon Tree of Icod (Drago de Icod), a National Monument since 1917 and about 16 to 17 m tall. It's called "milenario" (thousand-year-old), but it's at least 800 years old. According to Tenerife Tourism, entry costs €5 (island residents €2), €3 for students and pensioners, €2.50 for children aged 6 to 11 and nothing for under-6s. From April to September it's open from 09:00 to 20:00, and in winter it closes at 18:00; for October and the winter opening time, which vary depending on where you look, ring ahead on +34 922 81 56 85.

You can see the tree for free from Plaza de Andrés de Lorenzo Cáceres, next to the church of San Marcos; the €5 pays for the garden and a close-up view. It isn't wheelchair accessible.

A plan for a rainy day

If it's raining in the south, head up to the capital. Bear in mind that La Laguna is the rainiest of the three areas: about 64 days of rain a year, compared with 30 in Santa Cruz and 15 in the south.

  1. Bus 110 from Costa Adeje to Santa Cruz: 55 minutes and €9.45.
  2. MUNA in the morning (it opens at 09:00) and, if it isn't a Monday, TEA next door.
  3. Lunch at the Mercado de Nuestra Señora de África, open until 14:00.
  4. Afternoon at the Palmetum, or the tram to La Laguna for the Science and Cosmos Museum and Casa Lercaro.
  5. On a Friday or Saturday: save the island council's museums for after 16:00 and get in free.
