Tenerife's nightlife is packed into a strip a few hundred metres long in Playa de las Américas. Almost everything that stays open until dawn is there: the Verónicas centre on the seafront, Starco a little further up and The Patch towards Los Cristianos. Beyond that, the night means beach clubs at Playa de Troya, cocktail bars in Santa Cruz and students in La Laguna.
Not much of it is booked online: boat parties, the odd bar crawl, VIP tables and dinner shows. The rest is knowing where to go for your age and your plans, and keeping your wits about you in Las Verónicas, where thefts from tourists have shot up in the latest police figures.

Playa de las Américas nightlife: Verónicas, Starco and The Patch
All three areas are in the municipality of Arona and you can walk between them:
- Las Verónicas. The Verónicas centre is four buildings on the seafront, above the promenade on Avenida Rafael Puig Lluvina, with dozens of bars, pubs and clubs. It's the one that fills up latest.
- Starco. Another shopping centre, about 200 m inland, with more bars. It gets going earlier than Las Verónicas.
- The Patch. About 600 m towards Los Cristianos, quieter and with an older crowd.
How a night usually goes
Drinks at Starco early on, Las Verónicas once it's past 01:00 and the last club until 06:00. The legal limit in tourist areas is 06:30, so there's no legal after-party beyond that.
Tramps, which calls itself "The King of Clubs", advertises itself as "on the Verónicas Strip", but it's actually in the Starco centre. It opens every night from 22:00 to 06:00, with house in the main room; advance tickets start at €6 and VIP booths at €180.
More on the area by day and by night in our Playa de las Américas guide.
Playa de Troya: Papagayo and Monkey Beach Club
At Playa de Troya, on the border between Arona and Adeje, there are two venues that work as a restaurant or beach club by day and a club or party venue by night. They're not in Las Verónicas, although the two often get mixed up.
- Papagayo, on the seafront: according to the listings sites that advertise it, it's closed on Mondays and Tuesdays; Wednesday and Sunday 12:00 to 03:00, Thursday until 04:00, Friday and Saturday until 05:00. Themed nights cost about €15–25 to get in. Confirm before you go.
- Monkey Beach Club, Avenida Rafael Puig Lluvina 3: four spaces with different hours. Kong, the cocktail bar, is open every day from 12:00 to 01:00; Cielo, Tuesday to Saturday from 19:30 to 02:00; Playa Club, Tuesday to Saturday from 11:30 to 18:00; and Bésame Mucho, a paella and seafood restaurant. Pool parties and late parties are separately ticketed events: check the calendar at monkeybeachclub.com or on our Monkey Beach Club page.
For the over-30s and for couples, Troya and The Patch suit better than Las Verónicas. More ideas in Tenerife for couples.
Santa Cruz and La Laguna: where the locals go out
In Santa Cruz the night revolves around Calle Antonio Domínguez Alfonso, known as La Noria, next to the church of La Concepción: tapas bars that turn into cocktail bars and small clubs later on. It's a city atmosphere, not a resort one. Our guide to the capital is in Santa Cruz.
In La Laguna, the student area is El Cuadrilátero, a grid of streets next to the university campus. It's linked to Santa Cruz by tram; the night-time timetable varies by day, so check it on metrotenerife.com before relying on it to get back.
If you're staying in the south, the way back from Santa Cruz in the small hours is the 711 night bus or a taxi. Timetables on titsa.com.
Closing times: what the law says
In the Canary Islands opening hours are set by Decree 86/2013, and in areas declared tourist zones some are extended:
| Type of venue | Closing time |
|---|---|
| Nightclubs and dance halls | open from 18:00 to 06:00; until 06:30 in tourist areas |
| Bars with music | until 04:00 in tourist areas |
| Restaurants and café-bars | until 02:00; until 02:30 in tourist areas |
Local councils can extend these hours on up to five local festivals a year.
Boat parties and bar crawls
Boat parties usually leave from Puerto Colón in Costa Adeje; check the departure point on the listing. The ones on the platforms last about 4.5 hours with a free bar and DJ, and some include a swim stop; prices start at €71 and the most reviewed one is around €90. Other organisers sell standard, premium and VIP tiers from €90 to €130. If anyone in the group gets seasick, bear in mind that alcohol won't help.
Guided bar crawls around Las Américas cost from about €18 per person, last 3–4 hours and include shots and entry to a club. Ratings vary a lot between organisers; check the recent reviews before you pay. For stag and hen groups there are more options in stag and hen dos.
Safety in Las Verónicas: the figures
This isn't meant to scare you, but it is a reason to keep your head. The figures are public:
- In the municipality of Arona, in the latest half-year published (January–June), 4,341 offences were recorded, 31.2% more than a year earlier. Robberies with violence rose 114.2% (242) and thefts 50.2% (1,969).
- The police say dealers and thieves mainly target very drunk tourists around Las Verónicas.
- In May a 37-year-old British tourist died after being struck in a fight near Las Verónicas.
- In September, a four-day operation involving 155 officers led to 6 arrests and 494 people being identified.
- On the avenue running parallel to the area, driving and parking are now banned from 22:00 to 08:00. CCTV cameras, called for over many years, have been promised but not yet installed.
