Tenerife Costa Adeje Parasailing

It's a short, gentle activity that slots easily into a beach morning in Costa Adeje. You don't need any experience, you take off from and land on the boat's platform, and the price barely changes from one operator to the next. Our advice: book online at €54, don't pay extra for promises of height, and don't assume you'll fly as a pair, because that's decided on the day according to the wind.

Our picks

1

The most proven

A flight of about 10 minutes from Costa Adeje, rated 4.8 from more than 700 reviews.

2

With a 360° camera

Same starting price and includes the "CAM 360° experience" advertised in the listing; rated 5.0 from more than 100 reviews.

3

Well-rated alternative

Parascending with a boat trip along the south coast, rated 4.8 from more than 250 reviews.

4

If height matters to you

Billed as the highest flight on the island. Bear in mind that each operator states its own height and nobody measures it independently.

How parascending works: 10 minutes in the air, an hour on the boat

You board a speedboat with a platform and winch at Puerto Colón. Out at sea they strap you into a harness and the parachute lifts you off the platform; when you're done, the winch reels you back in and you land on it again. There's no jump and no run-up, and you don't have to get in the water to take off.

What confuses many people is the timing. The flight lasts about 10 minutes. The boat carries up to 12 passengers (at JetScoot) who fly in turn, so the whole trip takes 40 to 60 minutes. If a listing says "1 hour", it means the boat, not the time spent in the air.

The briefing, life jacket, boat trip, flight and insurance are included.

Solo, double or triple

All three formats exist; AJ.Fly Watersports advertises them all. But which one you get is decided by the instructor on the day, according to the wind, the state of the sea and the combined weight of the people flying together.

How high you go, and why everyone quotes a different figure

There's no single figure. Water Sports Tenerife talks of up to 50 metres, JetScoot of up to 100 metres and AJ.Fly of between 100 and 150 metres. These are the operators' own figures; no independent measurement exists. A listing billed as "the highest in Tenerife" is using its own figure.

Paying more for a promise of height makes little sense: choose on rating, times and cancellation terms.

Parasailing prices: per person, per parachute and what isn't published

Operator Price Details
AJ.Fly Watersports, pontoon 3 €60 per person (€54 online) non-flying companion €30; photos €25; insurance included
Water Sports Tenerife, Calle Colón 6 €60 per person (€54 online) departures at 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, 15:00 and 16:00
JetScoot, pontoon 3 €55 solo; €95 double free cancellation up to 2 days ahead
Water Sports Tenerife, combo parasailing + 40 min on a jet ski: €120 solo (€108 online); €85 per person in tandem (€76.50 online)

Two of the three operators charge per person, whether you fly together or not; only JetScoot discounts the double flight (€95 against 2 × €55). Booking online saves 10% with the two €60 operators.

On the booking platforms, the listings on this page start at €54, the same as booking online direct. The difference is in the cancellation terms: GetYourGuide refunds you if you cancel more than 24 hours ahead, unless the listing says otherwise; AJ.Fly also gives 24 hours, JetScoot wants two days and Water Sports Tenerife refunds in full if the weather stops play.

What the operators don't publish, and is worth asking before you pay:

  • Weight limit. No website gives one, and the figures doing the rounds on other sites contradict each other. It depends on the wind: ask at the desk, especially if two or three of you are flying together or if someone is very heavy or very light.
  • Price of a triple flight. It exists, but there's no published rate.
  • Actual height. See above.

Where you leave from: Puerto Colón

Every operator that publishes its departure point flies from Puerto Colón, the Costa Adeje marina next to La Pinta beach. AJ.Fly and JetScoot are on pontoon 3; Water Sports Tenerife is at Calle Colón 6. One operator mentions Los Cristianos in the web address of its parasailing page, but the page itself only lists Puerto Colón: if you're staying in Los Cristianos, plan to travel.

By bus ("guagua" locally), TITSA lines 467, 471 and 473 link Los Cristianos with Costa Adeje, and the 110 and 111 come from Santa Cruz; check the stop on titsa.com. The car park by the pontoons is pay-and-display.

Age, health and who can fly

  • Minimum age: 3 at AJ.Fly and JetScoot; 6, with an adult, at Water Sports Tenerife.
  • Swimming: some resellers require it and ask that under-16s be accompanied. You'll wear a life jacket, but if you can't swim, say so.
  • Weight: no published figure; ask.

Compared with a jet ski, you're not driving or bouncing over the waves here. For children who meet the minimum age it's a good first adventure; there are more ideas in Tenerife with kids.

Weather, times and cancellations

If the wind isn't right, flights are delayed, moved or cancelled. AJ.Fly flies from 10:00 to 19:00 between May and October and from 11:00 to 17:00 between November and April, so in winter don't leave your flight until late afternoon. If yours is cancelled and you still have days left on the island, ask for a new date rather than a refund.

Parasailing isn't paragliding

"Parascending" is simply the British name for parasailing: a boat tows you and you're never let loose. Paragliding is something else: you take off on foot from the mountainside at Taucho or Ifonche, in a tandem with a pilot, and land on the coast at La Caleta. A basic flight costs from about €90. If you're torn between the two, parasailing is shorter, cheaper and suitable for young children.

To round off the day in Puerto Colón, look at the boat trips from the same marina or snorkelling where the turtles are.

How much does parasailing cost in Tenerife?

Between €54 and €60 per person; booking online you pay €54 with the two main operators. JetScoot charges €55 for a solo flight and €95 for a double.

How long does parasailing last?

About 10 minutes in the air. As the boat carries several passengers who fly in turn, the whole trip lasts between 40 and 60 minutes.

How high do you fly?

It depends on the operator and the wind. The published figures are the operators' own, from up to 50 m to between 100 and 150 m, and there's no independent measurement.

Can two or three of us fly together?

There are solo, double and triple flights, but the instructor decides the format on the day according to the wind and combined weight. Ask when you book, but don't take it as guaranteed.

From what age can you go parasailing?

From 3 with some operators and from 6, with an adult, with others. Ask about weight too, because no operator publishes limits.

Are parascending and paravelismo the same as parasailing?

Yes, they're three names for the same activity: a parachute towed by a speedboat. It isn't paragliding, which takes off on foot from the mountainside.
