Buggy and quad companies in Tenerife: who's who, prices and terms

"Buggy Tenerife" and "Quad Adventure" aren't companies. Behind them are five named operators that charge per vehicle, want a car licence you've held for a while and, on Teide, only drive on tarmac.

"Quad Adventure Teide Tour" is the title of a resold product, and "buggy Tenerife" is what everyone types into the search bar. The real companies differ in four ways: whether they charge per vehicle or per person, the minimum driving age, how many minutes of dirt track you actually get, and what you lose if you cancel.

Who's who: the five companies that publish their terms

Company Base What it does Direct price Driver Cancellation

Only Quads4Fun and Club Canary show a registered company name, and none of them displays an active-tourism registration number (it starts with TA): ask for it when you book. Club Canary also works as an agency with several brands (Quad Monster, Xclusive Buggy, quad hire).

Monster Quad & Buggy Tenerife publishes no legal details or prices. On GetYourGuide, the most-reviewed national park buggy tour is listed under Top Buggy Adventure. And Wild Beasts Quad Safari's domain has expired: treat it as inactive.

What none of them can sell you: off-road on Teide

In Teide National Park, motor vehicles may only use the TF-21, TF-24 and TF-38 roads; driving on tracks or off them is an offence under the park's new management plan (BOC no. 240). Every "Teide buggy tour" is a guided convoy on tarmac that climbs to about 2,200–2,400 m. Club Canary says exactly that on its website.

Outside the park, forest tracks are closed to motor vehicles except for the signposted VM network, with prior authorisation from the Cabildo (the island council) for quads, a quota of 150 a day and convoys of 6 vehicles at most (Cabildo rules). If you want real dirt, choose Buggy Safari Tenerife's 2-hour off-road trip in Adeje, with about 45 minutes on tracks; its 3-hour Teide tour is 100% road.

Price per vehicle, not per person

The companies charge for the whole buggy (€179 between two is about €90 a head) and the whole quad, with a small supplement for the passenger. Platforms usually show a price per person (Teide quads from about €40): compare the total for the vehicle.

For a family of four, a 4-seater buggy (€299–349 at Buggy Teide) works out cheaper per head than two double quads. Several take part of the payment when you book and the rest on the day. None publishes the damage excess or whether they block an amount on your card: ask in writing. Quads4Fun sells extra insurance at €10 a day.

Requirements: age, licence and passengers

  • Driver: a physical photocard car (category B) licence; no photos of it and no provisional licences. Minimum age 18 at Buggy Safari Tenerife and Club Canary, 20 at Quads4Fun; some resold listings ask for 25 and 2 years with a licence.
  • Passenger: from 7 years or 1.20 m (Buggy Safari Tenerife, Club Canary), 8 years at Quads4Fun, 120 cm at Buggy Teide. Club Canary sets 160 kg per quad.

Pick-up and starting point

Most of the southern companies pick up free of charge in Las Américas, Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje; Quads4Fun charges €25–75 if you're further away and €75 from the north, so if you're staying in Puerto de la Cruz, Buggy Teide, which starts right there, makes more sense.

On GetYourGuide these trips score between 4.3 and 4.9; with ratings that close, decide on the terms and look for the supplier's name on each listing.

The good

  • Direct prices published by four of the five.
  • Free pick-up in the main southern resorts.
  • A route with real dirt track in Adeje and an option in the north.
  • 4- and 6-seater buggies for families.

The not so good

  • On Teide it's road, not off-road.
  • None publishes the damage excess.
  • Announced limits and closures for snow or heat.
  • Very harsh cancellation terms at Ultimate Quads.

Who should book and who shouldn't

A buggy if there are two or four of you; a quad if you're on your own. At 18 or 19, rule out Quads4Fun. If your plans might change, avoid Ultimate Quads. And if the volcano appeals to you more than the steering wheel, a Teide trip or an island tour shows you more scenery for less money.

Alternatives

Every trip is in buggies and quads. On two wheels or three, tuk-tuks and scooters; for speed on a circuit, karting. In the air, paragliding and the helicopter also leave from Adeje. And before you pay, check how GetYourGuide handles cancellations.

Which companies run buggy and quad tours in Tenerife?

The ones that publish their terms are Buggy Safari Tenerife, Ultimate Quads/Ultimate Buggies, Quads4Fun and Club Canary in the south, and Buggy Teide in the Puerto de la Cruz area. "Quad Adventure" and "Buggy Tenerife" aren't companies but a product title and a search term.

How much is a buggy or quad if I book direct?

A buggy is priced per vehicle: from €140 for the 2-hour off-road trip and from €179 for Teide with Buggy Safari Tenerife. A quad is priced per quad: €110 for a single to Teide with Club Canary and €105 for Quads4Fun's 3-hour route.

What's the minimum age to drive?

18 at Buggy Safari Tenerife (with a licence held for 1.5 years) and Club Canary (held for 1 year), and 20 at Quads4Fun. Always a physical photocard car licence; no photos of it and no provisional licences.

Can I cancel a buggy or quad tour?

Buggy Safari Tenerife and Club Canary refund you up to 48 hours beforehand. Ultimate Quads only gives a full refund more than a month ahead, half within the last month and nothing in the last 14 days.

Does any company do off-road driving on Teide?

No. Inside the national park you can only drive on the TF-21, TF-24 and TF-38 roads, so every Teide tour stays on tarmac. Dirt tracks are outside the park, as on the 2-hour off-road trip in Adeje.
