Paragliding companies in Tenerife: registration, take-offs, prices and limits

"Tenerife Paragliding" isn't a single company. We compare five registered tandem companies flying for €90 to €200, and the classic take-off at Izaña, inside the national park, is closed.

The five companies in this review publish their registration, prices and flying sites. The differences come down to three things: how long you spend in the air for what you pay, what happens to your money if the wind grounds you, and what you're actually being sold when a flight is advertised "from Teide". Kangaroo Tandem also trades as "Tenerife Paragliding Center"; Tenerife Top Paragliding and Sky of Tenerife exist too, without comparable details.

Who's who

Day Dream Paragliding TA-4-0003017.23 south Taucho, Ifonche and paratrike €100–140 not published
Happy Fly Tenerife TA-4-0002643.23; I-0003463.1 meeting point in C. Charfa, Adeje basic, Costa Adeje–Ifonche, high performance, Izaña from €90, €110, €140 and €180 not published
Enminube Parapente TA-4-0026186.23 C. Bencomo 9, La Laguna north: La Corona to Playa del Socorro; "Teide" to Puerto de la Cruz €150 with HD video 35–100 kg, up to age 70

Every tandem company must be on the Canary Islands government's active-tourism register: the TA-4 number is the first thing to look for. Overfly also appears among the companies recommended by Turismo de Tenerife and shows a 5.0 Google rating from about 1,470 reviews on its website.

Take-off sites: Taucho, Ifonche, La Corona and what happened to Izaña

In the south you take off from Taucho (Adeje, about 760–800 m) or Ifonche (above Adeje, about 1,000–1,100 m), and usually land on La Enramada beach, in La Caleta. In the north, the take-off is La Corona (Los Realejos, about 750–800 m), landing at Playa del Socorro. Turismo de Tenerife puts Taucho's best season between September and May; in summer, the north tends to be more reliable.

The flight "from Teide" used to start at Izaña, at about 2,200 m, inside the national park. The park's new management plan bans any aircraft from taking off or landing inside the park and from flying low over it (BOC no. 240). Overfly explains that the historic take-off is closed and that a temporary one is used near La Tarta, beside the TF-24 and outside the park boundary, flying towards the coast (Overfly, flying sites).

Prices: what you pay per minute of flight

Prices are similar; time in the air, less so. The basic flight from Taucho lasts 15–25 minutes and costs €100 at Day Dream, €105–110 at Kangaroo and €114.99 at Overfly; Happy Fly starts at €90. Day Dream's "Long duration" gives you 35–45 minutes for €130, the best value per minute. Ifonche costs €120 at Day Dream and €139.99 at Overfly; acrobatic flights, €140–145.

Kangaroo includes photos and video and knocks €5 off if you book on its website; Enminube includes HD video. Elsewhere, the photo package is usually extra: compare the totals. Overfly gives 5% off for two people and 10% for three or more.

On GetYourGuide, tandem flights from Costa Adeje start at about €100–130, the same as direct, often with pick-up. Those advertised from Puerto de la Cruz or "from Teide" are around €150–170: ask the same question about the take-off.

Cancellation for wind: this is where they differ

The wind decides, and each company shares out the risk in its own way:

  • Overfly and Enminube: if conditions aren't safe, they move your date or refund you in full.
  • Day Dream: asks for 72 hours' notice to refund you if you cancel.
  • Happy Fly: its terms say there's no refund for weather and you need to give 2 days' notice to cancel. It's the harshest clause of the five.

If you've only got a few days, book for the first one, with a company that reschedules at no cost.

Requirements and who can't fly

Overfly flies people of about 30 to 100 kg, Enminube 35 to 100 kg and up to age 70, and Kangaroo publishes the highest limit, 110 kg. Overfly takes children from about 6; Enminube takes minors with parental consent. Pregnant women and people with serious mobility problems can't fly. Allow 2–3 hours with transfer and briefing; Overfly and Kangaroo pick up free of charge in Costa Adeje and other southern resorts.

The good

  • All registered, with a visible number.
  • Direct prices similar to the platforms'.
  • Free pick-up in the south with several.
  • An option in the north.

The not so good

  • The flight "from Teide" is confusing.
  • Very uneven bad-weather terms.
  • Photos and video extra at most.
  • Maximum weight 100–110 kg where published.

Who should book with whom

A first flight in the south with peace of mind if the wind picks up: Overfly. Photos included, or weight close to 110 kg: Kangaroo. More minutes for less money: Day Dream's long flight, the only one of the five with a paratrike. From the north: Enminube. And if your date isn't flexible, avoid terms with no weather refund.

Alternatives

The practical guide to the flight is in paragliding in Tenerife. If you want the view without hanging from a wing, look at the helicopter or parasailing, towed by a boat from Puerto Colón. For the volcano with your feet on the ground, the Teide trip or hiking. With children, check the ages in Tenerife with kids.

Which paragliding company should I choose in Tenerife?

Overfly for a first flight in the south with a date change or refund if the wind grounds you; Kangaroo Tandem if you want photos and video included or weigh up to 110 kg; Day Dream for the longest flight for the least money; Enminube if you're staying in the north.

How do I know if a paragliding company is registered?

It must be on the Canary Islands government's active-tourism register, with a number starting TA-4. All five companies in this comparison publish it on their websites.

Is the flight from Teide still on sale?

Some companies sell it, but the Izaña take-off, inside the national park, is closed. Overfly uses a temporary take-off beside the TF-24, outside the park, and Day Dream lists the flight as unavailable: ask in writing where you'll take off from.

What happens to my money if the wind stops us flying?

Overfly and Enminube move your date or refund you in full. Happy Fly's terms say it doesn't refund for weather, so read the policy before you pay.
