The cable car is the quickest way to get yourself up to 3,555 m, at La Rambleta, 160 m below the summit of Teide (3,715 m). The company delivers on what it controls: clear prices, a no-quibble refund if it closes and text-message alerts. Where it trips up is in what isn't in the shop window: a maximum of one hour at the top, the separate permit for the summit and strict access rules.

Who Volcano Teide are
Teleférico del Pico de Teide, S.A. trades as Volcano Teide (volcanoteide.com). The base station is at 2,356 m, at km 43 of the TF-21, with a café-restaurant, a shop and the "Ciencia y Leyenda" (Science and Legend) exhibition, which is included in the ticket. At the top there's only wifi, toilets and vending machines. It also sells guided ascents, stargazing trips and visits to the Teide Observatory, and runs the Altavista mountain refuge (Refugio de Altavista).
What it sells and what it costs
The booking engine's price is the one that counts; the static page still shows the old €42 fare.
| Ticket | Adult | Child 3–13 | Resident adult | Resident child |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Return | €43 | €21.50 | €10.75 | €5.38 |
| Up only | €24 | €12 | €6 | €3 |
| Return + guided walk to the Pico Viejo viewpoint | €55.50 | €34 | €27.75 | €17 |
A single ticket down is bought at the top with a QR code (€23). Discounts require proof of eligibility; the resident fares are for people living in the Canary Islands, so you'll pay the standard price. It also sells the tour with cable car and hotel pick-up (€92, 7 h), the tour without the cable car (€52), the guided climb to the summit with permit and cable car (€178) and the sunset cable car (€72, 2 h).

Adult prices checked on 2 October 2026. They can change with the date; each platform confirms the final price.
The standalone ticket is only available on volcanoteide.com. GetYourGuide, Tiqets and Headout resell Volcano Teide's tours at the same price: €92 with the cable car, €52 without it and €159 for the sunset and stars trip. On Tiqets and Headout the €92 tour can be cancelled free of charge up to 24 hours beforehand, and Headout lets you pay later.
Booking, wind closures and refunds
You buy online for a time slot and need to be at boarding 20 minutes beforehand: if you're late, you don't go up.
- First thing in the morning the company decides whether to open (wind, ice or a breakdown).
- At around 08:30 it lets you know by email or text message.
- If it's closed, you choose free of charge: another time, another date or a full refund.
- If a stoppage delays you by 90 minutes or more, you can ask for a refund.
Changing or cancelling is free until 18:00 the day before (up to three changes within a year); after that you're charged 100%. The company doesn't publish how many days it closes or at what wind speed. Status and webcams: the weather on Teide today.
On ratings, its website shows 4.35 out of 5 from more than 23,000 reviews and the tour sits at around 4.3 on GetYourGuide: good, nothing more.
The summit permit: Volcano Teide doesn't issue it
Your ticket isn't a national park permit. For the last 660 m of trail to the summit (Telesforo Bravo) you need a booking on Tenerife ON, the Cabildo's platform.
- Eco-tax (09:00 to 17:00 slots): €15 if you don't live in the Canaries; €6 for residents of the other islands; free for Tenerife residents and minors (the site says 14 or 16 depending on the screen: check when you book).
- When: 56 days ahead; every Monday at 07:00 (Canary Islands time, the same as UK time) another week opens. Quota: 300 a day, 50 per slot.
- If the cable car closes: the permit date doesn't move, but the eco-tax is refunded when you show Volcano Teide's closure email. Keep it.
With a permit, your time limit at the top goes from 1 to 2 hours, trail and summit included: book the cable car for the slot before your permit slot. Without a permit you can fit in one of the two open viewpoint trails, La Fortaleza (about 45 min) or Pico Viejo (about 55 min), not both. Walking down needs its own permit. Details in climbing Teide.

Who it suits, who it doesn't and alternatives
Book the cable car if you have a car and want to get up high without hours of walking; without a car, the €92 tour saves you from relying on the only bus of the day (TITSA 342: leaves Costa Adeje at 09:25 and returns from the cable car at 15:40). If anyone in your group is pregnant, under 3 or has a heart condition, choose a tour without the cable car.
Alternatives: stargazing in the national park, hiking or an island tour. The company's night-time trips are covered in stargazing operators.
